14th June, Talmud between Judaism and science. Lesson by Rabbi Gianfranco Di Segni

On Thursday, June 14, at 6:00 pm, within the cycle of meetings Gallery Talk. Discovering MEIS exhibition itinerary, the National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah houses the lesson on Talmud Treatise Berachot by Rabbi Gianfranco Di Segni, translation Coordinator for the Talmud Project.

An explanation of the technology used for the Italian translation of the Babylonian Talmud, by David Dattilo, Manager of Traduco Software, and by Emiliano Giovannetti, Head of the ILC-CNR Research Unit, working on the same project.

Jews, an Italian Story. The First Thousand Years exhibition itinerary tells the story of the the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple in 70 CE by the Romans. Berachot, the treatise of the Talmud just published in Italian, explains how Jews have replaced the Temple in their identity and daily life.

The Babylonian Talmud Translation Project aims at the digitalized translation into Italian of the whole of a text that is of fundamental importance not only for the religious life of the Jews, but also for every aspect of human knowledge, from jurisprudence to science, from philosophy to everyday life. The commented translation, side by side with the original text in Hebrew and Aramaic, is a result of computational linguistics advanced tools and of the use of a specific software. The Project represents an extraordinary enrichment of the Italian cultural heritage and will give access to a masterpiece that has characterized Judaism and influenced European history for the last thousand years.
